An Evening of Song and Story

Thursday, February 9, 2017

Shanghai Angel- at the Jewish Community Library of San Francisco

Angel Island Conservancy in cooperation with the Jewish Community Library of San Francisco

On Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017 at 7 p.m., singer Heather Klein will discuss and sample songs from the one-woman show, "Shanghai Angel" that she is creating about her grandmother Rosa Ginsberg, who immigrated to the United States through Angel Island. The free program will be held at the Library, 1835 Ellis St., San Francisco.

Ginsberg left her family behind in Shanghai, China, in 1940 for an uncertain future in the United States. The 18-year-old native of Vienna landed at Angel Island, eventually departing for the mainland on the basis of a mostly true story. She married, raised a son, and brought four members of her family to the United States.

Winter Hike in the Park

Enjoy the quiet beauty of winter on the island!

What is happening on Angel Island in wintertime? Experience the island in the quiet off-season and join Angel Island Conservancy for an invigorating and educational hike on Angel Island.

The trail continues down a ridge on the south slope, offering unobstructed views of Point Blunt and San Francisco. Sunset Trail with amazing views of the bay and the Golden Gate will take us back down to Ayala Cove.
